Serena Williams took center stage in New York City last night, serving up lyrics instead of tennis balls in a karaoke event hosted by Delta Airlines at Arena. Fellow tennis pro Jack Sock sang R. Kelly’s “Ignition”, while Williams opted for “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” — the song that propeled Marilyn Monroe to superstardom.

Williams, who considers herself a karaoke enthusiast, has no delusions about her singing voice.

''The thing about karaoke is picking a song that works for your voice, that way if you sing like a cat — like I do — you can still sound pretty good.”
— Serena Williams

Last year, Williams teamed up with former on-court rival Martina Hingis to sing Macy Gray’s “I Try”.

Serena, who sits atop the WTA rankings, is staying in New York ahead of the US Open where she will try for her third title in a row.
