Any time you score a game winning goal for your team it’s pretty sweet, but for Capitals winger Troy Brouwer last night’s slap shot was triply so. Not only did it come in the waning seconds of the ballyhooed Winter Classic against his former team, but Brouwer’s father was in the stands to witness the action.

The senior Brouwer used to regularly make the trip from Vancouver to Chicago to watch Troy when he played for the Blackhawks. Since suffering a stroke a few years ago, he’s only been able to attend a few games in Washington.

''I've had some good moments in my hockey career, but this one, with all the intangibles, that played a part in it; my parents being able to come into town, playing against my former team… it's going to be a memorable day.”
— Troy Brouwer, on GWG in Winter Classic
