The Texas Rangers, which were founded in 1961 as the Washington Senators, are the only team to have a catcher as their all-time leader in wins above replacement.
Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez amassed a WAR of 68.4 over his MLB career, with 49.9 WAR coming during his 13 seasons behind the plate with the Rangers. The 1999 American League MVP was voted in to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility (2017) appearing on 76% of the votes cast.
TEXAS RANGERS ALL-TIME ROSTER
The next biggest contributions to the Rangers all-time roster by WAR are from first baseman Rafael Palmeiro (44.4) and third baseman Adrian Beltre (41.6). Big name players like Nolan Ryan and Alex Rodriguez didn’t stick around long enough in Arlington to make the cut.
