Gymnast Gabby Douglas took a break from her training in Ames, Iowa, to help coach a determined 13-year-old guest from San Antonio, Texas. Amarissa Mauricio, who suffers from lupus, soaked up the attention from the Olympian, and even got to try a gold medal on for size.

The meeting was set up by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but Douglas and her family went above and beyond the call of duty to make Amarissa’s visit special.

The day following the arranged meeting, Amarissa was invited by the Douglas’ to lunch, then an art studio for canvas painting. Afterward — after the cameras had left — Amarissa jumped at the opportunity to spend more one-on-one time with Gabby while getting their nails done.

''She's a huge inspiration to me, to remember to keep fighting if things get hard, if things get tough. It's about never giving up.”
