Nap Lajoie would probably be proud of second baseman Jason Kipnis’ contribution to the Cleveland Indians. But while Kipnis has amassed a respectable 20.5 wins above replacement in nine seasons with the Tribe, Lajoie accumulated 42.4 wins above replacement (WAR) in just his first half dozen years in Cleveland.
INDIAN ALL-TIME ROSTER BY WAR
Lajoie played second base for a total of 13 seasons with the Indians starting in 1902, and leads the franchise’s all-time roster by WAR with 79.6. The team’s other biggest contributions came from outfielder Tris Speaker (74.2) and pitcher Bob Feller (65.2).
Feller, a fireballer from Van Meter, Iowa, starred for the Indians when they last won the World Series in 1948.
