Todd Helton was born at the Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains (aka Knoxville, Tennessee), but it was a mountain range 1,000 miles to the west that would become synonymous with his name.
Helton spent his entire 17-year MLB career with the Colorado Rockies, and holds club records for hits (2,519), home runs (369), doubles (592), walks (1,335), runs scored (1,401), runs batted in (1,406), games played (2,247) and total bases (4,292). Unsurprisingly, he also leads the team in career wins above replacement (WAR) at 61.2.
COLORADO ROCKIES ALL-TIME ROSTER
While no one can approach Helton’s numbers, the other biggest contributors to the Rockies’ all-time roster by WAR come from outfielder Larry Walker (48.2) and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (39.1). Due primarily to its relative youth, Colorado is one of the rare MLB franchises with two active players making their team’s all-time roster; third baseman Nolan Arenado and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez.
