The Bakersfield Condors kicked off the teddy-bear-toss season with more than 7,000 of the plush toys raining down on the ice during their game against the Utah Grizzlies. Chase Schaber scored at the 1:38 mark to initiate the spectacle of stuffed animals being tossed en masse over the glass by the audience.

This is the sixteenth year the Condors have hosted a teddy bear toss to benefit different nonprofit organizations, and the night’s bounty brought the franchise’s all-time tally of toys collected to 95,567. The home crowd was rewarded for their generosity with a 6-5 overtime win.

MEANWHILE IN CANADA

Meanwhile, north of the border, the Calgary Hitmen will hold their 20th annual teddy bear toss when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors at the Saddledome on December, 7. Those in attendance will be attempting to break the Hitmen’s world record haul of 26,919 stuffed animals during their 2007 promotion.
