The Diamondbacks are tied with the Tampa Bay Rays as the youngest teams in Major League Baseball, so it should come as no surprise that Arizona’s all-time roster by wins above replacement (WAR) is a little light on household names, with one big exception.
In the latter half of his career, Randy Johnson — aka “The Big Unit” — pitched eight seasons for the Diamondbacks, winning four consecutive Cy Young Awards with the team from 1999-2002. In 2004, the 10-time All Star became the oldest pitcher in history to throw a perfect game at the age of forty.
DIAMONDBACKS ALL-TIME ROSTER
Johnson’s WAR of 52.6, easily outpaces the next highest contributions made to the Diamondbacks by first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (40.3), pitcher Brandon Webb (61.6), and outfielder Luis Gonzalez (30.1).
