Football cards may lack the pedigree of their baseball counterparts, but the most valuable piece of collectable cardboard in the realm of gridiron greats is still worth a healthy chunk of change.
TOP TEN MOST VALUABLE FOOTBALL CARDS
The only PSA Mint-9 rated Bronko Nagurski 1935 National Chicle football card sold for $240,000 in 2006, and again in 2011 for $350,000, firmly establishing it at No. 1 among the top ten most valuable football cards in auction history.
Just missing the cut to make the top ten was a 1948 Leaf card of Bobby Layne (with yellow pants and name misspelled as Bobbie) which sold by Heritage Auctions in 2016 for $38,240.
As for modern era cards, Joe Montana’s Topps rookie card held the record at $65,880 until being surpassed by Tom Brady’s rookie card, which sold for a quarter million dollars on eBay just days before Super Bowl LII.
