During a 20-year career starting in 1967, Tom Seaver compiled 311 wins, 3,640 strikeouts, 61 shutouts and a 2.86 earned run average, while winning three Cy Young awards.
Seaver’s first 10 seasons (and one more stint in 1983) were spent with the New York Mets where he amassed 76.1 wins above replacement (WAR). In 1969 Tom Terrific went 25-7 as a starter led the young franchise to its first World Series.
NEW YORK METS ALL-TIME ROSTER
After Seaver, the Mets’ next biggest WAR contributions on the all-time roster come from third baseman David Wright (50.4) and pitcher Dwight Gooden (24.7).
Here we present the entire Mets lineup constructed entirely by choosing the player with the team’s highest WAR at each position, including a rotation of three starting pitchers and one reliever.
