Normally caddies don’t make the news unless they are involved in an ugly breakup with a golf legend like Tiger Woods. But when the caddy has 22.3 million followers on Twitter and has walked the greens with the current No. 1 golfer in the world, it gets noticed even when everything’s hunky-dory between the two.
After caddying for Rory McIlroy at the BMW PGA Pro-Am, One Direction star Niall Horan fielded questions from the golfer contributed by fans on social media. Among the tidbits gleaned, Horan cites himself — with a tip o’ the hat to Harry Styles — as his band’s best golfer and has shot all-time best round of seventy-nine.

Perhaps it was destiny that Horan and McIlroy would click, but credit Jimmy Fallon for being the first to spot the connection between the two during a Tonight Show Superlatives segment last summer.

With Zayn Nalik’s departure from One Direction in March, could McIlroy cleverly be positioning himself to be his replacement? While the golfing great has not yet penned any of his own songs, he does at least have a song (albeit a bad one) written about him.

A couple year’s ago, Horan and Styles played a round of golf with fellow boybanders JB Gill, Marvin Humes, Aston Merrygold and Oritsé Williams of JLS fame. Shortly thereafter the latter entity disbanded. It’s never been determined if the two events were related…
