Previously, we took a gander at Gal Gadot’s workout routine for the Wonder Woman movie. In the interest of equal opportunity time for female superheroes, this #WorkoutWednesday, we find out how Brie Larson got super fit to play Carol Danvers, one of the universe’s most powerful heroes, in Captain Marvel.

BRIE LARSON’S CAPTAIN MARVEL WORKOUT

Larson’s trainer, Jason Walsh, worked with her for nine months to achieve her Captain Marvel fitness goals. In a video produced by Men’s Health magazine, Walsh explains the progressive overload technique he employed with the actress to prepare her for her starring role.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY

As Larson’s character in Captain Marvel is an ex-U.S. Air Force pilot, she put in time outside of the gym to get some real flying experience with actual Air Force fighter pilots. In her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she explained to the host that this mainly involved her puking non-stop in the cockpit while they simulated a dog fight.

CAPTAIN MARVEL’S RECEPTION

Disney put the domestic box office for the opening weekend of Captain Marvel at $153M, which is the third-best box office debut in March (after Beauty and the Beast at $174.7M and Batman v. Superman at $166M).

Captain Marvel is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who keeps having recurring memories of another life as a human. With help from Nick Fury (played by Samuel L Jackson), Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls.
