At the upper end of financial compensation spectrum are chief executive officers of the world’s biggest corporations, but not much below them are the biggest names from the world of competitive sport.
WORLD’S HIGHEST PAID ATHLETES
Forbes‘ 2018 ranking of the world’s highest-paid athletes had two fighters making the top ten that were the subject of 2017’s biggest boxing match: Floyd “Money” Mayweather (appropriately at No. 1), and Conor McGregor (at No. 4). The former is unlikely to make it to the top of next year’s chart, as he is still semi-officially retired.
Outside of Mayweather and McGregor, the rest of the top ten features three footballers (Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar), two basketball players (LeBron James and Stephen Curry), two NFL players (Matt Ryan and Matthew Stafford) and one tennis player (Roger Federer).
