Sandwiches have fueled at-home sports spectating since the advent of the television, and the language used by sports commentators subconsciously feeds the hunger. In football, a wide receiver is sandwiched between defenders; in basketball, when a starter sits, a sub comes off the bench; in baseball, the hitter of a walk-off home run is hailed as a hero.
Los Angeles based artist Jeff McCarthy has taken the marriage of snacking and sports to the next logical step by producing watercolors of sports stars (and other celebs) perched on sandwiches. An earlier menu of McCarthy’s creations featured Michael Phelps on double-decker fried egg and cheese. This time the food fest begins with sometimes-vegetarian Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady riding atop a very non-veg New England lobster roll.
Time to hit the fridge…
Five-time Super Bowl champion Brady on a New England lobster roll. Will McCarthy slap Brady atop a Floridian sandwich should he deliver the Buccaneers a Super Bowl win? Only time will tell.
Arnold Schwarzenegger on a pork schnitzel sandwich.
MMA-fighter Conor McGregor on a corned beef and cabbage on toasted wheat.
Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. on a fried hot dog with BBQ sauce.
Former NY Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis, now with the Dallas Mavericks, perched on a chicken finger sandwich with pickles, purple slaw, and sticky sauce.
Sylvester Stallone as boxer Rocky Balboa on a Philly cheesesteak.
